Five Nervous System Practices That Take Less Than Five Minutes
You don't need an hour of meditation to calm your nervous system. These five short practices fit into a busy day and send your body a signal of safety.
Read the articleBeneath digestive distress and lingering inflammation sits a quiet conductor: your autonomic nervous system. When it settles, digestion follows, and the low-grade inflammation behind so many symptoms finally has room to calm. That is where Maria’s work begins.

Most people who find Maria have already done the reasonable things. They changed their diet, took the supplements, saw the specialists, ran the tests. Some of it helped for a while. Then the symptoms came back, or moved somewhere new.
Your autonomic nervous system governs everything you don’t have to think about: heart rate, breathing, immunity and, most of all, digestion. When it is balanced, the parasympathetic “rest and digest” branch leads, and the vagus nerve signals the gut to do its work. Digestive secretions flow, the gut moves food along in rhythm, the intestinal lining repairs itself, nutrients are absorbed and the microbiome thrives.
Chronic stress, unresolved trauma and years of running on adrenaline flip that switch. Digestion slows or speeds up. The gut lining becomes more permeable. Immune cells stay on alert, and low-grade inflammation becomes the new normal. That can surface as food sensitivities, joint pain, brain fog and a host of other symptoms that usually get treated separately.
This is not another symptom checklist. It is an invitation to work with the intelligence already wired into your physiology.
Maria’s work sits at the intersection of the autonomic nervous system, digestive function and chronic inflammation. By restoring regulation to the nervous system, she helps create the conditions for the gut to heal, for inflammation to quiet, and for your body to reclaim its own capacity for balance.
Every plan is built around you, but most of Maria’s work draws on these areas, usually several at once.

Maria Zilka is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and a Certified GAPS Practitioner with more than fifteen years of clinical experience. She has spent much of that time working alongside physicians with people facing complex, long-standing health challenges, and she has deep experience with therapeutic diets.
She also practices what she teaches. Maria still runs trails in her sixties, and she believes aging well is less about willpower and more about a nervous system that knows how to rest, a gut that is well fed, and a life with room to breathe.
Maria has a gift for reading people. She notices what sits under the symptoms, and she meets each person where they are.
